“The NYS Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act (PDF) <http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/materials_minerals_pdf/ewastelaw2.pdf>  (38 kb) (Environmental Conservation Law, Article 27, Title 26), which created a new electronics recycling and takeback program in the state, was signed into law by the Governor on May 28, 2010. The new law will provide free and convenient recycling of electronic waste to most consumers in the state, including households, many small businesses and many not-for-profit corporations.”

This is a great policy advance. I’ve found that most consumers are willing to take back and recycle but the fees imposed to some electronics recycling encourage them to hold stuff at home until the total value of product is lost. Policies like this will be a step further to facilitate customer engagement in the loop.
